If you’re in my Discord, you’ve already seen my post regarding this, but I wanted to go ahead and post an update directly to the site as well in case you aren’t in the Discord for any reason. You may know that I started writing reviews roughly a decade ago; this started as a very casual hobby and was an outgrowth of the list I kept of every show that I had seen. It became a tradition for me to write a review for every single show I watched before moving onto the next one; I actually first started commenting on shows in this way because it helped me keep the list of shows more organized and made it easier to keep track of each individual show, and was pretty easy to keep up because the reviews I was writing during the time period in which that list was actually relevant didn’t require much of a special effort from me at all. Lately though, I’ve been pretty silent; there was a time period before I launched this site where I was watching a lot more anime and writing a lot more reviews than I have been lately which you can visually see just by looking at the post history on this site, as it stands right now things have been relatively sparse. This is partly just because I have other things I enjoy doing that distract me and eat up a lot of that time I was pouring into this particular hobby before, but it’s primarily because I’ve been losing motivation to write these reviews as the result of my own self-imposed tradition of reviewing every single new show I watch. If you’re curious, very old reviews exist for literally every show that is listed as complete on my MAL profile, all of the public reviews available here were written following the review of “Gamers!” that I wrote a little over 2 years ago as my first ever foray into serious critique (which in itself is not my best work compared to what I try and put out now but at the time was by far the best critique I’d ever done and is still joked about in my friend group). I’ve reached the point now where the amount of energy and effort required to do these critiques is enough to be daunting in those cases where a show isn’t interesting enough to me for whatever reason to justify putting in that kind-of effort, and that completely stalls the entire operation because the tradition of reviewing everything I touch prevents me from moving onto the next thing; I’ve been completely stuck on Record of Ragnarok for the last few months doing absolutely nothing simply because I didn’t want to tackle it, and that results in me leaving you high and dry as the reader. Well, as you might’ve guessed, that ends today: I’m going to break my tradition straightaway by simply moving on from Record of Ragnarok entirely (which I wasn’t a very big fan of by the way just in case you were still curious) and jumping right into whatever the next show on my bucket list ends up being (likely Fullmetal Alchemist which I’ve been needing to finish for months now). Expect from here on out that I will not be reviewing every show that you see me complete on MAL, and that I’ll instead only be reviewing shows if I genuinely want to and when I want to. My hope is that I’ll be able to watch more shows this way, enjoy myself more with them and that the reviews you do get will be more substantial than they’d otherwise be; the last thing you want as the reader is to sink your teeth into the material of a guy who’d rather have not been dealing with that material at all! Love you all, thanks as always for your interest in my work, and stay epic gamers
