Diabolik Lovers

…this is most obvious insofar as there being literally no explanation as to what defines a vampire within the world in which this story is taking place. There is a limit to the educated guesses a viewer can make about what vampires can do and what significance they have based on their portrayals in mythology and in other media; loose commonalities like blood sucking, having fangs and being immortal are on such an unimportant surface level in the grand scheme of things that it feels more like the characters in Diabolik Lovers are role-playing as vampires than anything else.… Read more.

Pupa

I’m not really sure how much I can even say about Pupa that hasn’t already been said and to be completely honest it’s hard to passionately despise it at this point (especially when considering how short it was and how easy it was to laugh at), but I’m going to take the quality time to paint a complete picture of my disgust anyways.… Read more.

Yofukashi no Uta

…but now that I finally have the chance to sit down for this review and I’ve had a couple of weeks or so to stew on Yofukashi no Uta, I’ve come to realize part of the issue I was having was writer’s block, which is never fun and tells me something important about the show itself I’m trying to review; I’m apathetic towards it, regardless of whether or not it’s good or bad or somewhere inbetween.… Read more.

Bloom Into You

…and I’m not saying that shows like these need comedy, but in the absence of comedy you need a damn good narrative. Naturally, that begs the question—does this show have one? Honestly, that’s a tough one.… Read more.

Citrus

Immediately there’s a problem; obviously I don’t take issue with the Yuri genre in and of itself (its painful stereotypes aside), but Yuzu doesn’t just fall in love with another girl; she falls in love with her fucking step sister.… Read more.

Domestic Girlfriend

Assuming you’re familiar with even the basic premise of Domestic Girlfriend (with the Japanese title of Domestic na Kanojo), you probably don’t need me to tell you that it’s bad. Anyone could guess that much just by looking at the title, for god’s sake; but for the sake of getting something out of the time I spent putting myself through it, I’m going to regale you with the tale of my suffering anyway—there certainly is something to be said about using my 100th anime milestone as an excuse to explore this sort-of extreme.… Read more.
